Aims

The Nami island international illustration Concours (NiiiC) by providing artists with the opportunity to introduce their works on a global scale aims to inspire illustrators throughout the world to create high quality art work and thereby contribute to the improvement of the quality of picture book illustrations for children.

 

Background

Nami Island International Children's Book Festival or "Nambook" has been held since 2005 on Nami Island, Korea. Nami Island also has the distinction of serving as sponsor of the Hans Christian Andersen Awards. Nami Island's original owner and founder, the late Min Byeong-do over 50 years ago began his support of the arts community by providing funding for musical, artistic programs and childrenÕs book authors. Nami Island now averages 2.5 million visitors per year and has grown into one of Korea's most popular tourist destinations. As a natural extension of Nami's interest in and support of culture in general and children's book culture in particular in 2013 it will hold its first ever illustration concours.

 

Eligibility    Illustrators from all over the world

 

Theme    No restriction

 

Size of entry

-       No bigger than 60x60cm

-       No heavier than 5kg

 

Conditions

-    Both published and unpublished works are acceptable BUT unpublished ones are preferred

-      Number of entry is 5 or more and up to 15 from one story

-       3-Dimensional illustrations should be photographed and submitted as print version

-       Digital illustrations should be printed out and submitted as print version

 

How to apply

-       Summary of the story in English (300 words)

-       Entry Form (A) to be filled out and sent to Nambook Festival Secretariat

-       Entry Form (b) to be cut out and attached to the backside of each sheet of illustration

Awards

-    Grand prix, US$5,000 prize and invitation to the award ceremony

-    Two Golden Island Awards, US$2,000 prize and invitation to the award ceremony

-    Five Green Island Awards, US$1,000 prize

-    Ten Special Prizes

 

Benefits

-       Winners of Grand Prix and Golden Island Awards will be invited to the award ceremony with travel expense provided

-       If a winner is Korean, invitation to 2014 Bologna Book Fair with travel expense provided

-       Award-winning works will be exhibited during Nambook Festival-013

-       Award-winning works will be included Nambook Festival-013 catalogue and promoted internationally

-       Award-winning work can be reproduced for promotion with artist name indicated

 

Award ceremony    April 2013, Nami Island Children’s Book Festival-013 (date and venue TBA)

 

Return of entry

-       Rejected entry will be returned until the end of April 2013

-       Award-winning entry will be returned until the end of August 2013

-       Entry with incorrect or incomplete address may be discarded at the end of 2013
